Covid guidance

Page updated on 29th April 2022

The guidance in Scotland has recently changed and so we have updated our workshop policies as well.

What we will do to reduce the risk of transmission in our premises:

• Ventilation - we will keep windows open at all times while workshops are in progress, and encourage people to take breaks outdoors whenever possible.

• Face coverings - Face coverings are no longer mandatory in Scotland and so you are not obliged to wear them at my workshops. However, if you prefer to wear a face mask you are very welcome to do so. I am happy to wear a face mask at times when I am supporting you closely. Access to tissues, and covered bins for disposal, will be provided.

• Enhanced cleaning - we will wipe down frequently touched surfaces in between workshops, and provide access to hand sanitiser, and soap, water and paper towels for handwashing.

Access to cleaning materials which can be used to wipe down shared equipment between uses will also be provided, and hand sanitiser will be available on entry to the workshop space.

• Safe distancing - we will keep our workshop numbers small to allow for 1 metre social distancing whenever possible, and encourage mask-wearing whenever a workshop requires people to work more closely together. We will support the Distance Aware Scheme, and have identification badges (or similar) available for those wishing to make others aware.

You can find the full guidance from the venue that I teach at, the Arienas Collective here >

When you access this page a pop up comes up, click on that to find the current guidance.

Questions

Attendance

Just a note on attendance. I would appreciate it if you could make every effort to attend the course you have booked. I don’t get a set wage for teaching, my income is based on the number of people attending. We have had to cut the numbers attending because of the need to social distance so my income has decreased by a third even when the class is full and everyone attends. I had a number of months without any teaching income so I am very grateful that we are up and running again.

What if I’m not feeling well on the day?

If you are suffering from symptoms of Covid-19, even if it is undiagnosed please do not come on the course. Email Lynn to let her know and we will give you the details for rearranging your attendance lynn@thearienascollective.com

What do I need to bring?

Please bring the following with you: glasses for distance and close up work if you need them, a face mask, lunch if you are on a 1 day course, a pen.

We keep the windows open for ventilation so do bring layers!

What if I have a gift voucher?
We have 3 different types of gift voucher:

Jewellery School Scotland voucher

If you have one of my vouchers do take a look at the class dates > and email me to let me know which one you would like to book onto. I will them be in touch with the Arienas Collective to reserve your space

anna@jewelleryschoolscotland.co.uk

Arienas Collective gift voucher or Craft Courses gift voucher

Check the class dates > and email Lynn at the Arienas Collective with the name of the course you want, the date you’d like to book onto and the voucher information

Tools and equipment for use during the workshop

Pre-Covid you were provided with a tool kit of equipment and tools to use for the duration of the course. We are now giving you three options:

  1. Use the tools provided as before

  2. Purchase a kit from the tutor

  3. Bring your own kit

Materials

All the materials you need for this course will be provided. That includes the silver clay which is individually wrapped. I also provide silver-plated open jump rings and earring wires that will be cleaned before the class starts.

Option 1: Use the tools provided

As before Covid-19, I do have a metal clay tool kit for each person available for your use. These tools will be thoroughly cleaned before you arrive and will be for your use only for the duration of the class. You do not need to bring any tools to participate in this class. I have invested in additional equipment to minimise any need for sharing.

Shared equipment

Due to the nature of the course, there are some shared items of equipment. These items will be thoroughly cleaned by the tutor between uses. They are:

  • Texture mats

  • Sugarcraft cutters

  • Butane jewellers torch

If you prefer not to share any equipment then you can find links to purchase these items below

Option 2: Purchase a brand new kit that you can use on the course and take home

I have put together a kit of tools that you can order from us before coming to the class. You will be able to use them while you are with us and then take them to use at home.

This kit costs £33

Kit contents:

1 x clay roller

1 x pack of playing cards

3 x cocktail sticks

1 x sanding sponge (approx. 5cm x 5 cm)

1 x spray water bottle

1 x water brush

1 x clay shaper

1 x clay cutter with straight edge

1 x badger balm (approx. 3g)

1 x pack 3M polishing papers (approx 5cm x 5cm)

1 x brass brush

1 x reverse action tweezers

1 x safety glasses

If you would like to purchase a kit please email Lynn AT LEAST two weeks before your class is due to start so that I can ensure I have everything you need. I may have additional kits available to purchase on the day but that cannot be guaranteed.

Please note, this kit does not include the items of shared equipment mentioned above. If you would prefer not to share any equipment you will need to purchase these items yourself and the links to these are below.

Option 3: Bring your own metal clay tool kit

If you prefer, you can bring your own metal clay kit. Here is what you will need for this class (I have included links to the Metal Clay Ltd website so you can see exactly what you need where it may not be clear):

For the Introduction to Silver Clay 1 day class

We will be using silicone moulding material. I will bring this and give you your individual moulding material with gloved hands. If you would like to purchase your own pack you can find the link here:

http://www.metalclay.co.uk/siligum-moulding-compound-100g/

You will be moulding a small silver charm, button, shell etc. You are welcome to choose from the selection available (these will be cleaned prior to the class) or bring your own

Included in the 1-day course you also get 1 x round 3mm fireable cubic zirconia. This is provided and you will be able to choose your own colour. If you prefer to bring your own here is the link http://www.metalclay.co.uk/lab-created-gempack-3mm-mixed-colours-20-stones/

Please note, it does need to be a fireable stone. Not all cubic zirconia can be fired in silver clay.

I am absolutely happy for you to use the equipment I already have available as we have done in our workshops pre-Covid. We are taking all the precautions we can to ensure that everything is cleaned and I have purchased additional equipment to minimise the amount of sharing of tools that is required on the day. If you do not contact us at least two weeks before the start of the class we will presume that you will be using the equipment we are providing or bringing your own.

I am really looking forward to welcoming you back to the workshop!

Please do get in touch if you have any questions. My email address is anna@jewelleryschoolscotland.co.uk
