Botanical Silver Clay Jewellery Workshop in Edinburgh: Create Nature-Inspired Jewellery in Solid Silver 🌿

If you’ve ever picked up a shell on the beach, noticed the texture of bark, or admired the intricate detail of a seed head, you’ll know how inspiring nature can be. In this Botanical Silver Clay Jewellery Workshop in Edinburgh, you’ll learn how to capture those natural textures and transform them into real silver jewellery you can wear forever.

This new in-person workshop at The Arienas Collective is designed for anyone who wants to explore silver clay jewellery making in Scotland, whether you’ve taken a workshop before or are looking for a fresh creative experience rooted in nature.

What is silver clay jewellery?

Silver clay is made from recycled silver particles mixed with an organic binder and water, creating a soft, workable clay. You can shape it, press textures into it, and sculpt it just like traditional clay. Once fired, the binder burns away and the piece becomes solid fine silver (99.9% silver).

This makes it one of the most accessible and exciting ways to create handmade silver jewellery, without the need for traditional soldering or complex equipment.

Silver clay is especially suited to capturing fine detail, making it perfect for botanical and nature-inspired jewellery.

Create botanical jewellery inspired by nature

In this botanical silver clay jewellery workshop, the focus is on working directly with natural materials such as:

  • Shells

  • Acorns

  • Leaves

  • Seed pods

  • Bark and organic textures

You’ll learn how to press these textures into silver clay to create unique, organic surfaces that cannot be replicated by machine. Each piece reflects a moment in nature, making your jewellery deeply personal and one-of-a-kind.

Nature-inspired jewellery is increasingly popular with both makers and wearers, especially those drawn to sustainable jewellery, organic design, and slow craft practices.

Who this silver clay jewellery workshop is for

  • Previous silver clay students wanting to explore new techniques

  • Beginners curious about making their own jewellery

  • Artists, makers, and creatives seeking new skills

  • Anyone looking for creative workshops in Edinburgh

All tools and materials are provided. However, you are encouraged to bring your own botanicals if you would like. Here are top tips about

  • Pick leaves/grasses etc the night before the workshop. Place them in a tupperware box (or similar) with damp kitchen roll in the bottom. Anything we use needs to be fresh, dried leaves etc will just crumble when pressed into the clay.

  • The clay will pick up texture really well so choose leaves with very deep vein structure e.g. sage leaves. Waxy leaves like ivy, for example, do not work well.

  • Jewellery is small, so you want to focus on smaller leaves - no more than 3cm long but ideally smaller. You can also mould sections of leaves or grasses if you bring larger items

  • You can bring leaves, grasses, seed pods, small twigs, shells, sea urchins, acorns etc
