Ring a Month Challenge for 2022

Happy New Year to you!

January 2022 marks the start of the fourth year of the Ring a Month challenge.

It started in December 2018 when I wanted to challenge myself. I knew that I needed something public to hold myself accountable so I started the Facebook group and the Instagram account.

Luckily it worked for me! And the challenge has worked for many jewellers wanting to commit to something.

One of the rings I made for the challenge (Materials: metal clay and gold paste)

What is the challenge?

Make a ring every month in 2022.

That’s it!

Everyone is welcome using any material or jewellery-making discipline, whatever your level of experience, wherever you are in the world!

The challenge is completely free.

There are two options for joining in with the challenge, using Facebook or Instagram.

Facebook

Join the private Facebook group here and post a picture of your ring when you’re done. Work in progress shots are also welcome as are blog posts on your work

Facebook group > https://www.facebook.com/groups/makearingamonth/

Instagram

Follow @ringamonth

Share your ring on your Instagram account with the hashtag #ringamonth2022 somewhere in the text or the comments and I will be notified. Rings shared with the hashtag #ringamonth2022 will be shared in the stories. A selection of rings will also be shared as a regram on the account and you will be credited for this.

You are welcome to join in on both Instagram and Facebook! This is a very supportive community so please do like and comment on people’s work.

Themes

In previous years I have set a theme each month. I have decided not to do that for 2022.

I think a theme can be really helpful when narrowing down what to do. However, I think that if you don’t resonate with a theme it is hard to get motivated.

If you prefer a theme yourself then I suggest that you decide on one. They can be technical e.g. stone set, mixed metals etc or they can be more thematic e.g. music and lyrics, nature, geometric.

I am encouraging people to discuss and share their themes in the Facebook group so if you would find that helpful I do suggest joining.

If you want to see the previous themes I have listed them below:

2019

Texture, Music and Lyrics, Colour, Inspired by Nature, Mixed, Once Upon a Time, Movement, Under the Sea, Finish It, Inspired by the Seasons, Gems Gems Gems, Creatures

2020

2021
